Gayatri Jayanti: 6.6.2025

Gayatri Jayanti is commemorated as the birth anniversary of Goddess Gayatri, the deity of the Vedas. As the presiding goddess of all the Vedas, she is also revered as Veda Mata, or the Mother of the Vedas.

It is believed that Goddess Gayatri is the manifestation of all the phenomenal attributes of Brahman. She is likewise worshipped as the goddess associated with the Hindu Trimurti. She is regarded as the mother of all the gods and is considered to embody the divine qualities of Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Parvati, and Goddess Lakshmi.

Gayatri Jayanti is observed on Shukla Paksha Ekadashi during the lunar month of Jyeshtha, and it usually falls on the day following Ganga Dussehra. However, owing to divergent traditions (Matantara) regarding the appropriate date for its observance, some celebrate Gayatri Jayanti on Shravana Purnima. This latter date is widely accepted and often coincides with the observance of Upakarma.

Devotees mark Gayatri Jayanti with special prayers to Gayatri Mata, and by the repeated chanting of the Gayatri Mantra.
