Must I Do All These to Attain God-Realisation?

Question: Must I really have to wake up before sunrise at Brahmamuhurta to do my prayers?

Answer: Yes. Even Sri Krishna, the Lord of the Universe, woke up at Brahmamuhurta: Srimad Bhagavatam 10:70:4 says, "Lord Mādhava would rise during the brāhma-muhūrta..." If even the Lord, who has no reasons to abide by the rules set for men, made it a point to get up at Brahmahurta, do we have any reason to sleep late?

Sri Krishna Daily Meditated
Question: Must I do sadhana every day?

Answer: Yes. When God came to earth as Sri Krishna, He made it a point to daily do His sadhana during Brahmamuhurta: Srimad Bhagavatam 10:70:4 says, "...during the brāhma-muhūrta period ...He would then meditate upon Himself." If the Lord Himself chose to do it, do we have any reason not to?

Question: Must I do Japa/chanting every day?

Answer: Yes. In Srimad Bhagavatam 10:70:6, it says, Sri Krishna started the day "...with worship at dawn" and He "would silently chant the Gāyatrī mantra". Do we, then, have any reason for not doing our japa and prayers at dawn daily?

Question: Is it necessary to go to the temple to pray?

Answer: Unless one's status is much higher than Srimati Rukimini, the eternal consort of Sri Krishna, who regularly worshiped Bhavani at the temple, one should go to the temple on a regular basis to pray. In Srimad Bhagavatam 10.53.40-41 say, just moments before Sri Krishna came to take her away, Srimati Rukmini "...silently went out on foot to see the lotus feet of the deity Bhavānī."

Question: Is it necessary that I should fast on Ekadasi?

Answer: Yes. The foster-father of Sri Krishna, Sri Nanda Maharaj, who although knew that he had God himself for a son, made it a religious duty to faithfully fast on Ekadasi. Srimad Bhagavatam 10.28.1 says "having... fasted on the Ekādaśī day, Nanda Mahārāja entered the water of the Kālindī on the Dvādaśī to take his bath". Is Ekadasi fast really necessary?
